As we age, it's common to experience changes in our hearing. You may have noticed difficulty hearing conversations, the TV, or even the phone. You might also have ringing in your ears or feel like your ears are blocked. If this sounds familiar, it’s a good idea to have your hearing checked.
At The Audiology Place, we offer comprehensive hearing assessments for pensioners and DVA (Department of Veterans' Affairs) cardholders. Here’s what you need to know about the process:
You Don't Need to Visit Your GP for a Referral
You don't need to visit your doctor before visiting our clinic. You can just bring your CRN card with you when you have your first appointment, and we can take care of the rest for you.
Step 1: Schedule Your Hearing Test
If you hold an Age Pension Card or a DVA Card, HSP will cover your hearing test.
Step 2: The Hearing Test Process
During your visit, you will sit in our soundproof room. Our facilities are accessible to those in wheelchairs.
Dr Signe Steers will examine your ears and conduct a comprehensive hearing test.
Step 4: Middle Ear and Speech Tests
In addition to the standard hearing test, we’ll check the function of your middle ear using a Tympanogram, a gentle pressure test. We’ll also assess your ability to hear speech through Speech Tests.
Step 5: Results and Next Steps
After the test, your Audiologist will explain the results to you. You’ll receive a detailed report by email or post, and a copy will be sent to your doctor. If your results suggest that hearing aids may be beneficial, we’ll discuss your options.
Hearing Aids and Assistive Devices
If hearing aids are recommended and you want to try them, we will help you apply to the Commonwealth Government’s Hearing Services Program (HSP). This program offers fully or partially subsidised hearing aids or assistive listening devices (ALDs) to eligible individuals.
On the same day you will discuss which style, size, and colour of hearing aids would best suit your needs.
